Breast Milk vs Formula

It been two weeks that I changed Mya's diet from breast milk to formula. I changed her diet because I had mastitis (inflammation of your breast), and let me tell you this, it sucks major big if you ever had mastitis. It felt like a truck just ran over you. My left breast was in so much pain and it hurts so much when I pump. It was red on the breast, not the nipple and hot to touch. Also, I had a fever of 102.5 and I had the chills so bad. I couldn't take care of Mya because I felt so weak. So I asked my mom to come over and help me out with Mya. My mom stayed for 2 days. Boy, I was glad I had a mother near by and not everyone is lucky to have that. I went to the doctor and he gave me antibodies for 10 days. On the 3rd day, I was feeling a lot better. As I was pumping, my milk was green and it had mucus in it. So gross and it looked like silly strings was coming out from my nipple.

After I recover, I wasn't giving out much milk as I used to. At first I was giving 2 oz from both breasts and after I got sick, I was only getting half oz from both breasts. So I knew I had to start the formula before I starved Mya to death. I had a lots of frozen breast milks that the hospital saved for me while Mya was in the NICU. I used that as I introduce the formula. I did not think Mya was going to be happy when I changed her diet, but it seems it doesn't bother her at all as long she is getting her food!

We know that breast milk is very good for your baby and it helps their immune stronger. Not only that it's good for your baby, but the poop does not smell at all. With formula, oh my goodness, the poop is running and smelly. And the formula stinks when you mix it with water. I can't stand the smell of the formula but you get used to it. I just hold my breath when I am preparing the food. And when Mya burp, it still stinks from it. The only good thing I have to say about formula, I don't have to pump or breast fed Mya. Don't get me wrong, I did not mind doing it but it is physical and mental tiring. Every 2-3 hours, I am popping my breast out to pump. That is all what I did, pump, pump and pump! I was starting to make music out of the pumping machine's sound. And it was hard to go out in public because I am on schedule to pump. Otherwise, if I go over 3 hours, my breasts starts to hurt real bad because it is full. Another good thing about breast milk, it is free! Each can of formula costs 15.00 dollars! And we go through them in 5 days as she taking 4 oz per bottle. She recently been taking 4 oz. Before she was taking 2 oz. So I guess she is growing big! I wish she stays small forever!

Today, Mya and I went to my parent's house because my good friends from high school, Adrienne and Donna-Maria, wanted to hang out and I haven't seen Donna-Maria for a while. While Mya was at my parent's house, my mom was holding her and playing with her, of course, Mya had left over gas in her belly. I guess she was trying to get it out but the milk came out from her nose! It cracks me up when it does that but on the other hand, I feel bad for Mya because she doesn't like it and she cries from it. It only happened 3 times before.

Another plus, Mya slept for 10 hours last night straight. Score for me!
